Researchers Turn Skin Cells Into Stem Cells

In an on-line edition of Science Magazine dated 20 November 2007 Gretchen Vogel reports that "scientists have managed to reprogram human skin cells directly into cells that look and act like embryonic stem cells".

This follows another blockbuster announcement from Ian Wilmot, the creator of Dolly the sheep, that he is giving up work on cloning to work on cell reprogramming, the method used in the work reported by Science Magazine.

While there are still some bugs to be worked out, as decribed in the news report, this is a major breakthrough which can bypass the ethical barriers to using these embryonic (properly termed pluripotent) stem cells for research and, ultimately, cures.

Pro-Lifers can legitimately rejoice over this news but we need to remember that we still have the decades old problem of abortion with us and the newly rising spectre of In Vitro Fertilization and its growing array of associated ethical and social horrors presents us with a new war to be fought for the protection of human life.

Recapturing The Soul Of Bioethics

Another powerful article by Father Tad appeared in the April 6th edition of The Bulletin. In this article Father Tad takes on the hypocrisy of the so-called bioethicistsin their support of in vitro fertilization.

"Blinding us with Science"

An article similar to Dr. Riley's above is published on Townhall.com by Jonah Goldberg. This article refers, in more detail, to the misuse of science in justifying the killing of human embryos.
